I am a full-time student in the MHSA program here at KUMC. Aside from school I work part-time at Community Works Inc., helping those with brain injuries to cope in the community. This summer I will be interning at the Eastern Kansas VA Hospital in Leavenworth, KS. In my spare time I enjoy woodworking, fishing, and discussing anything sports. Prior to the MHSA program I conducted research in a molecular biology lab and also worked at a bank as a loan specialist. Upon graduating I hope to start my career in rural health. I am a full-time student in the MHSA program here at KU Med and expect to graduate in the Spring 2011 semester. Prior to becoming a full-time student, I was a Toxicology chemist at Clinicial Reference Laboratory in Lenexa, KS for three years. Outside of the classroom, I love to go bike riding with my fiance at Shawnee Mission Park, and just hanging out with friends as we smoke (and/or grill) some bar-be-que.
JHAWK has been a terrific means of connecting with classmates and professionals alike in and around the KC metro area. From the Royals games, professional guest speakers, to the volunteer work in our community and else where, it has been a terrific experience so far and I strongly encourage all MHSA students to participate. Savanna is a part-time student in the MHSA program, and she has been actively involved with JHAWK since the spring 2010 semester. She works full-time for the KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and also volunteers with Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri. Before moving to Lawrence with her fiancé for graduate school, she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida and studied abroad in England. While Savanna misses the beaches of Florida and her travels through Europe, she has found many things to love about Lawrence and Kansas City. She enjoys getting bubble tea and red curry at Zen Zero, walking around the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings, shopping at the Legends and the Plaza, watching the Royals games, touring the Boulevard Brewery, and jogging at Clinton Lake. |

I am currently a full time student in the MHSA program and will be completing an internship with the Easten Kansas VA Medical Center in Topeka, KS this summer. My time at K-State gave me experiences in Student Health, fundraising and philanthropy. I am currently pursuing a Master of Health Services Administration at The University of Kansas Medical Center. Expected completion of this program is May 2011.
Prior to graduate school, I worked as an Internal Auditor for a Fortune 500 company. In this role, I performed operational and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audits designed to improve business operations and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Much of my work here included a significant amount of learning new software systems and completing complex data analyses. Despite my accounting background, I get along with most people pretty well.

Heidi has worked for the past 4.5 years in a safety net clinic in Lawrence coordinating a Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program. In her free time, Heidi enjoys spending time with her friends and family and watching KU sports. One of her greatest experiences was being an AmeriCorp member for the Kansas Community Health Corp. |

Professor Michael Grasso, Ph.D.

Professor Grasso is one of the HP&M faculty members. His teaching and research interests are in medical informatics and health care finance. He teaches courses in Management Information Systems (HP&M 826), Health Care Finance (HP&M 824), Managerial Accounting (HP&M 825), as well as Health Care Statistics (HP&M 817). He has been a member of the adjunct faculty in the Department of Health Policy and Management since 2002.
